Tasty Sarsoon ka Saag Recipe


Sarsoon (Mustard) is being used as a curry named Sarsoon ka saag. It is one of the renowned dishes of Asians especially Indo-Pak Region and Punjab. As mustard is widely cultivated in Punjab, so the Spinach Curry or Sarsoon ka Saag is a compulsory part of Punjabi's food.  

Sarsoon ka Saag Recipe:

Although you will find many of the recipes to cook saag but here is the best and recipe for you to cook Saag. 

Ingredients for Saag Recipe

  • 1kg Fresh Mustard Leaves (Sarsoon)
  • 1 Bunch Spinach Leaves (Palak)
  • 1 Small Bunch of Fenugreek Leaves (Hari Methi)
  • 1 Bunch Goosefoot leaves (Bathua)
  • Water 2 to 3 Cups
  • Garlic Cloves 12 to 15
  • Chopped Green Chilli 8 to 10
  • 1&1/2 Tbsp Pink Salt Powder
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp CornMeal / Maize Flour
  • 1Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp Butter
  • 1 Tbsp Garlic Sliced
  • 7 to 8 Button Red Chillies
  • 2 to 3 Tbsp Ginger

Directions: 

The following are the steps involved in cooking Sarsoon ka Saag.

Step 1:

First of all chop all the greens. Then take 2 to 3 cups of water in a cooking container and heat on a medium flame for 2 to 3 minutes. When it gets enough hot, put all greens in the water. Add Garlic, Chopped Green Chillies, and  Salt into it. Mix it well and bring it to boil.  Cook on a low flame for 2 to 3 hours in a closed container. 

Step 2:

After step 1, mash it well, until it gets coarsely ground. Now add 2 to 3 Tbsp of maize flour into it. Cook it again until Saag become thick. 

Step 3:

Now take another cooking pot and put 1 Tbsp of oil in it. Add 2 to 3 Tbsp of Butter, 1 Tbsp sliced garlic, button red chilies, and 2 to 3 Tbsp Ginger. Cook it well until it gets brownish.

Step 4: 

Now mix the end product of step 3 and four by putting it on a low flame. You Sarsoon ka Saag is ready. 

Best way to Serve Sarsoon ka Saag? 

Saag becomes tastier when it is served with maize bread (Makki ki Roti) and Lucy.
